The Company
TAUJEL, (the name given to a particular piece, one of the many thousands, used in INTERLACED CARPENTRY), was founded in 1984 by the Civil Engineer Dr. José Luis Aranzadi and the Architect Dr. Enrique Nuere and specializes in the Design, Restoration, and Reproduction of Roofs and Interlaced and Coffered ceilings (artesonados de lacería) Enrique Nuere was given a present of an undeciphered manuscript on the rules of MUDEJAR CARPENTRY written by the Sevillian master carpenter (alarife) Diego Lopez de Arenas in the 16th century. During three centuries many attempts were made to decipher the treatise, all to no avail. To be able to understand this work it was absolutely fundamental to have a thorough knowledge of Architecture and Carpentry (together, of course, with great deal of patience), all of which Enrique Nuere has. So began this unique and amazing process by which TAUJEL has recovered SPANISH MUDEJAR CARPENTRY and rediscovered the rules and formulas that were used to construct the splendid coffered and interlaced ceilings(artesonados) and the superb frameworks that enrich innumerable churches , palaces and private houses in Spain, Portugal and overseas. The MUDEJAR art is Specifically Spanish. It was the result of more than 7 centuries of coexistence with the Islamic world, arriving at this singular architecture in which the carpentry framework with complicated geometrical designs are its main character. TAUJEL have transcribed these complicated designs into mathematical formulas for use as software on computers, they also developed numerically controlled woodworking machinery which allows the manufacture of the thousands of pieces, necessary for this type of work, with extraordinary precision and speed therefore obtaining maximum cost efficiency enabling them to give exceptionally keen prices. Recently TAUJEL have incorporated Doors of Interlaced work both of simple construction and cross framed construction, just two more possibilities of historic carpentry. |
